the utterfall

2000
installation

"the utterfall created an indoor snowstorm made of shredded magazines which people could walk through and interact with in any way they chose to. I sat in the far corner, feeding used magazines into an altered paper shredder. The shredded paper was then lifted via five home-made conveyor belts to the ceiling, where it would drop down, forming a cloud of "snow" which viewers could walk through, play with, or enjoy from a distance. The paper snow accumulated on the ground and gradually spread throughout the gallery and surrounding spaces."
